Something that we often overlook is the fact that the book of Job begins and ends with intercession. Intercession for his children in chapter 1. And intercession for his friends in the last chapter. Just as God needed Job to be there on behalf of his children and his friends, God needs us today to be there on behalf of our families our loved ones our friends. As if to confirm this important truth God has given us the following passages within the book of Job.
Job 33:23-24 NKJV
“If there is a messenger for him, A mediator, one among a thousand, To show man His uprightness, [24] Then He is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the Pit; I have found a ransom’;
Job 21:19 NKJV
They say, ‘God lays up one’s iniquity for his children’; Let Him recompense him, that he may know it.
God has given life to everything that breathes upon this planet.
To a limited degree we also have given life to our children.
God’s Creatorship gives him the right to reconcile His creation to Himself through the death of His Son.
2 Corinthians 5:18,21 KJV
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; [21] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Our limited creatorship gives us the right to be punished (reconciled) on behalf of our children.
Job seems to be saying here that it’s expedient for a father to suffer for the sins of his children. Does that extend to anyone we pray for? In other words is there a price to pay when we intercede for others?
Who is sufficient for these things?
Individual verses are often used as ‘evidence’ for important doctrinal beliefs.
Job 14:12 KJV
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
We use an isolated text like that as evidence that death is a sleep. This is a legitimate use of Scripture.
Why do we not use a text like Job 21:19 to prove that intercession is real and has consequences.
Job 33:23-24 TLB
“But if a messenger from heaven is there to intercede for him as a friend, to show him what is right, then God pities him and says, ‘Set him free. Do not make him die, for I have found a substitute.’
This would then be in step with the following New Testament passage of Scripture.
2 Corinthians 5:18-21 NKJV
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, [19] that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. [20] Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. [21] For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
When Jesus calls us to partake in this ministry of reconciliation, is it substitutionary or merely discretionary (advisory) on our part? In other words, does this passage suddenly change cadence? Not so. Remember the words of Jesus to his disciples…..
Matthew 20:23 NKJV – “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;…..
And later on in his epistle Peter talks about following in the footsteps of Jesus.
1 Peter 2:21 NKJV
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
No one is suggesting that anyone can add to the finished work of Christ. But, unless Paul is a false prophet, there is something meant in the following text that is not addressed in modern Christian teaching. This is what this website is attempting to address. If Jesus succumbed to His Father’s will, we should do the same. This is the final phase of God’s work upon this planet.

Three different versions of Job 21:19 seem to point to the fact that there is indeed a price to pay when we intercede for others?
Job 21:19 NKJV
They say, ‘God lays up one’s iniquity for his children’; Let Him recompense him, that he may know it.
Job 21:19 AMPC
You say, God lays up [the punishment of the wicked man’s] iniquity for his children. Let Him recompense it to the man himself, that he may know and feel it.
Job 21:19 TLB
“‘Well,’ you say, ‘at least God will punish their children!’ But I say that God should punish the man who sins, not his children! Let him feel the penalty himself.
In praying for others we will realise in our own experience what the Psalmist meant when he wrote….
Psalm 69:9 NKJV
Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
This isolated verse is full of meaning. Indeed, that whole chapter (Psalm 69), could be seen as describing the experience of those who embrace the doctrine of prayer and intercession. It will not be a pleasant experience. It may attract many – For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Matthew 24:28 KJV – but not all will embrace it.

The power of prayer is obvious from the following passage.
Revelation 8:3-5 KJV
And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. [4] And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. [5] And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
When are God’s people going to enter into the true Sabbath-rest so that they are prepared to take God’s salvation to the world? Their experience is reflected in the story of the scapegoat. (Lev.16:20-22) This little goat was let go into the wilderness. It had a part to play in the salvation of God’s people. This is alluded to in the writings of Paul. (Col.1:24) This occurred after full atonement had been made through the other goat. (Lev.16:15,16) As stated above, this is in no way supplanting or adding to, the finished work of Christ. But the New Testament is replete with the importance of God’s people following the footsteps of their Saviour. The reader is invited to the article “The Scapegoat”.
Not everyone has the ability to talk and persuade. But there is the power of prayer.
Zechariah tells us that it won’t be through mission programs run by highly qualified missionaries. It will be God’s ordinary people praying.

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Amos 9:13 KJV
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed…..
Job was unable to see all the behind the scenes workings that caused his sufferings but God gave him the faith to see that there was a glorious light at the end of the tunnel.
Job 19:25-26 NKJV
For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; [26] And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God.

I use Word Press 3.6. It seems to work for me. But it was a steep learning curve for me when I first started. The tutorials on you tube are good. Wish you well on your endeavours.
